You know why Mami Nanami is the best girl from Rent-a-Girlfriend? It's not just because she is drop-dead gorgeous with those dazzling blue eyes. It's because her character and the feelings she portrays are most closely aligned with those of a real human girl. Anime/manga is at its greatest when the authenticity of a writer's emotions and experiences are on full display. Nobody can deny that Mami brings out our real emotions. All of us who want to just trash on her because she isn't the unerringly kind and perfect girl we all think we deserve have failed to examine our own faults in our commitments to a relationship. Real love is hard, it's complex, it hurts. Success in a relationship for us guys depends in part on our determination to overcome a girl's capriciousness. Mami exemplifies this truth, toying with Kazuya's feelings and leading him on, even after indicating she has no romantic interest in him. What young and attractive girl have any of us met that doesn't do this? Kazuya recognizes that just because Mami has hurt him, doesn't mean that getting her to reciprocate his genuine feelings is impossible or not worth the effort. In fact, he is more open about his desire to be with her than anyone else in season 1 of the show. Chizuru is a great girl yes, but she doesn't compare to Mami in terms of the full range of emotions and dynamics of a long-lasting and authentic relationship. Mami is best girl because she doesn't expect money in return for her favor, but commitment.
