Fourth grader Aoyama is a serious student who carefully records his daily observations and experiments in his notebook and counts the remaining days until adulthood. One day a horde of mysterious penguins appear in his tranquil hometown. Together with the pretty dental assistant, for whom he secretly has a crush, Aoyama begins to get to the bottom of the mysterious events. When he and his classmates Hamamoto and Uchida discover a strange, huge ball of water in a hidden clearing that suddenly swallows objects, he comes up with a suspicion: both events could be connected and the dental assistant must be the key to the solution... Penguin Highway by the young director Hiroyasu Ishida and the up-and-coming studio Colorido is a successful, sensitive coming-of-age story with sci-fi and mystery elements.
