The answer is a name: Gisaburo Sugii. Gisaburo Sugii is considered one of the founding fathers of Japanese animation. He has worked on numerous well-known series and films, shaping them with his incomparable handwriting as a director and animator. Alongside Tezuka and Hayao Miyazaki, long-time companion and collaborator Osamu Tezuka is one of the very few anime creators who have had the honor of having a film biography dedicated to them: Animation Maestro Gisaburo - the highly praised documentary by Masato Ishioka describes Sugii's career “from the bottom” right up to the top - from the small assistant artist of the 1950s to the director and producer of the present. Alongside the charismatic old master, we take a rarely granted look behind the scenes of the Japanese anime industry - accompanying its history from the post-war period, still in the overpowering shadow of Disney, to the global pop culture phenomenon of our days.
