In the not-too-distant future: Humanity is forced to seek protection from its worst threat yet in mobile fortresses called Plantations. The only effective weapon against the beasts that repeatedly attack human settlements are the Franxx, powerful combat robots controlled by a male and a female pilot. One of the candidates for the next generation of Franxx pilots is Hiro, who was once considered a child prodigy, but who has recently failed in every attempt to find a suitable partner and is therefore about to be retired. When he skips the launch ceremony to instead pursue his thoughts in a forest, he meets a horned girl who introduces herself as Zero Two and seems strangely familiar to him... The long-awaited collaboration between the studios CloverWorks (Fairy Tail) and Trigger (Kill la Kill) shines with this gripping mecha series that masterfully combines dystopian science fiction with a captivating coming-of-age story.
