Shôya Ishida is the boss of his class. Terror of the playgrounds, he does the 400 blows with his classmates. His daily life at school will be disrupted by the arrival of a new student, Shôko Nishimiya, who is deaf. Sweet and attentive, Shôko will attract the sympathy of the whole class, or almost... At first with polite indifference, Shôya will begin to inflict small humiliations on Shôko. Then, he will end up dragging other students into the daily persecution of the young girl until the day when Shôko no longer returns to school. Shôya is then denounced and reprimanded. The roles are reversed: he goes from being class leader to being an outcast. The years go by, Shôya has changed a lot and he has learned sign language. He sets out to find the young girl he had wronged so much, to apologize. Will he manage to exorcise his past?
